Instagram Says “We Suspended Your Account”: How to Recover

This morning, as I was creating an Instagram account for the website, it said “We suspended your account” right after sign-up. The page further read that I had 180 days left for appeal, and failure to do so would lead to permanent account deletion!

Naturally, I grew anxious. Social media presence is vital for a brand’s growth, and Instagram is one of the most popular platforms today. So, I had to restore my Instagram account from suspension.

Surprisingly, it all took less than 2 minutes. I will detail that in the next section, but let’s first find out what caused the Instagram account suspension right after sign-up!

Why does Instagram say “We suspended your account”? Instagram usually suspends newly created accounts when the algorithm detects inconsistencies in the provided information or it believes the account will be used for spam. Over the years, Instagram has adopted a stricter stance against bot accounts.

How can I fix “We suspended your account” on Instagram after sign-up?

1. Raise an appeal and verify your phone number

The easiest option to recover a suspended Instagram account that was just created is to raise an appeal. That’s what I did. On the screen with the “We suspended your account” for 180 days message on Instagram, scroll down and click on Appeal.

You will, most likely, now be asked to enter a mobile number, followed by an email address verification through a one-time code. Once done, Instagram will restore your suspended account automatically.

This is what worked for me, and it didn’t take more than 2 minutes. When I checked online forums, almost 75% of the affected users could recover their suspended Instagram accounts after verifying their mobile numbers!

2. Upload your photo and wait for account re-activation

For some you, Instagram, instead of requesting credential verification, will ask for a selfie when you appeal the unjust account suspension on sign-up. When you move past email verification, you will see this screen:

So, simply click on Upload a photo, select a picture that clearly shows your face from the PC or mobile phone, upload it, and click on Submit. Make sure there’s no one else in the photo. Otherwise, account suspension may not be revoked.

Once you appeal against account suspension, wait for Instagram to review it. It may take anywhere between a few hours to up to 2 days. But since it’s a new account (and a legit one, I am assuming), things should be quickly sorted from Instagram’s end.

If the appeal is rejected, your account will be automatically deleted. In that case, you can go ahead and create another account. This time, make sure not to use the same email address/phone number or username and don’t have any active VPN. Instagram doesn’t like that!

3. Contact Instagram support

If Instagram doesn’t respond to your appeal after 7 days, contact Instagram support via the Help Center.

After talking to other users who faced account suspension, I found that Instagram generally revokes suspensions that are applied right after account creation.

That’s how you can recover a suspended Instagram account with or without a phone number upon seeing the “We suspended your account” message.

Remember, in general cases of account suspension, it takes a lot longer. But since that’s not the case here, you stand a much better chance of receiving a fair hearing for the appeal!
