How do I block Reddit from Google searches?
1. Use the negative (-) search operator
The easiest option to remove Reddit from Google search is to enter the ‘-‘ operator followed by the website’s address after the query. For instance, if you are searching for “headphone reviews“, the query without Reddit results becomes “headphone reviews -site:reddit.com.”

Similarly, for any query, you just have to add the phrase “-site:reddit.com” towards the end, and all Reddit pages will be removed from Google search.
Besides, you can use as many negative operators to remove any number of websites from Google search results. For instance, if you want to remove Quora and Reddit, the phrase to be added to the end of the query becomes “-site:reddit.com -site:quora.com.”
You can use this method to remove websites other than Reddit and Quora. Just follow the same idea and it will work seamlessly!
2. Use a dedicated extension
- Open Chrome, and click on the following link, or paste it in the address bar and hit Enter:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ublacklist/pncfbmialoiaghdehhbnbhkkgmjanfhe
- Click on Add to Chrome to install the uBlacklist extension, and confirm the change.
- Click on the Extensions icon, select uBlacklist, and then click on Options.
- Now, enter “*://*.reddit.com/*” in the provided field, and click on Save.
- Once done, perform any Google search and Reddit won’t be included in the results.
You can similarly exclude Quora or any other website from Google search. All you have to do is replace example.com in the *://*.example.com/* parameter with the affected website’s address.
3. Switch to any other search engine
Though not an ideal solution, if Google somehow doesn’t respect the negative operator and the extension doesn’t work, you can always switch to another search engine, one that doesn’t index Reddit.
Recent reports suggest that Reddit has blocked almost all search engines except Google from indexing. So, they should all work fine!
Besides, even if a search engine indexes Reddit, it wouldn’t list it as excessively as Google. The results should ideally align with the query, unlike Google, which pushes Reddit in every case!
Now that you know how to remove Reddit from Google search results, it’s vital to understand what prompted the change. Some believe it is due to Google’s push for user-generated content, while others blame the deal between Google and Reddit. Whatever the case, the move had severe repercussions for many!
Google’s promotion of Reddit and Quora in search results was a key reason many switched to Microsoft’s Bing. I was amongst this bunch, too, but once I knew how to remove Reddit from Google search, it was time to move back. In the meantime, I had already mastered Bing Search and found accurate and reliable results in absolutely no time!
That’s all for today. Before you leave, tell us what you think of Google listing Reddit in the search results and whether you find it helpful!
