Ever since I wrote a blog on Instagram’s AI Chats/Characters, many have reached out complaining about Instagram AI Chats not showing on their account. Since there were many cases, I did some research and was able to find out both the underlying causes and the solutions for the problem!
When Instagram AI Characters are not showing, it’s usually because you are running an outdated app version, the app data is corrupted, or the feature has not yet been rolled out in your region.

What can I do when Instagram AI Chats is not showing?
1. Some basic checks
Try these checks first:
- Sign out and then log back in to Instagram
- Update Instagram
- Reboot the device
- Check if others in your region have AI chats on Instagram, because it’s likely that the feature is not yet rolled out in your country.
If you still find Instagram AI Chats not showing, move to the solutions listed next.
2. Clear app cache
On Android
Open Settings > go to Apps > select Instagram from the list > choose Storage > tap on Clear cache and Clear data > confirm the change > relaunch Instagram and check for improvements.
On iOS
Open Settings > go to General > select iPhone Storage > choose Instagram from the list > tap on Delete App > confirm the change.
So far, iPhones don’t let you clear the app cache separately. So, are forced to delete the app and reinstall it!
3. Reinstall Instagram
On Android
Open Settings > go to Apps > select Instagram from the list > tap on Uninstall > confirm the change > reboot the device > reinstall Instagram from Google Play Store.
On iOS
Open Settings > go to General > select iPhone Storage > choose Instagram from the list > tap on Delete App > confirm the change > reinstall Instagram from Apple App Store.
If a misconfiguration in the installed version is behind Instagram AI Chats not showing or not working, reinstalling the app will do the trick!
4. Use a VPN
In case no one in your region so far has access to AI Chats or Characters on Instagram, consider getting a free VPN solution. I have been using the free version of VPN – Super Unlimited Proxy for years on an iPhone without any issues. Although, with a free version, you get limited servers.
So, set up a VPN, choose an optimal server, then launch Instagram, and verify whether you have access to AI Chats!
5. Contact Instagram support
If nothing has worked so far, the last option is to contact support via the Instagram Help Center. In such situations, the support team is better equipped to identify the underlying cause and share a resolution.
